Galerie Max Hetzler

Galerie Max Hetzler is a prominent contemporary art gallery with a global presence, representing nearly sixty artists across six spaces located in Berlin, Paris, and London. In addition, the gallery boasts an exhibition space and artist residency in Marfa. Founded in Stuttgart in 1974, Galerie Max Hetzler initially focused on championing a generation of influential German artists emerging at that time, including Albert Oehlen, Günther Förg, and Martin Kippenberger. The gallery also played a crucial role in promoting their international counterparts such as Christopher Wool, Jeff Koons, Robert Gober, and Cady Noland, among others.

Throughout its history, Galerie Max Hetzler has undergone significant expansion, collaborating with nearly 175 artists and representing a strong core of leading international artists while also supporting the legacies of several estates. The gallery's program is characterized by fostering a fruitful dialogue between established artists and younger generations, creating an evolving discourse that reflects the current artistic landscape.

The gallery's origins can be traced back to Stuttgart in 1974 when Max Hetzler opened the Hetzler + Keller gallery, initially focusing on artists from the Rhineland and Stuttgart. As the gallery's reputation grew, Hetzler began to bring European and international artists to Stuttgart, including notable figures such as Donald Judd, Richard Long, and representatives of the Arte Povera movement.
