Established in late 2003, dépendance has consistently introduced young and relatively unknown artists to the Brussels art scene, maintaining affiliations with many of them to this day. 

Striking a Harmonious Balance: dépendance Gallery's Artistic Approach

The gallery can be credited with hosting the first international exhibitions for artists like Sergej Jensen (2003), Haegue Yang (2004), Michaela Eichwald (2005), Jana Euler (2010), and Peter Wächtler (2013). Notably, Thomas Bayrle, Michael Krebber, Richard Aldrich, and Ed Atkins made their Belgian debuts with dépendance.

The gallery's approach strives to strike a balance between emerging talents and more established artists.

Gallery artists have been featured in prestigious exhibition venues across the world, including the 59th Venice Biennale, where Jana Euler and Allison Katz exhibited, as well as the 58th Venice Biennale, where Ed Atkins showcased his work at the Arsenal. Notable institutions include the New Museum in New York, which has displayed the works of artists like Ed Atkins and Thomas Bayrle. Other venues include the Münster Sculpture Project 2017, MUKHA Antwerp, Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and many more.
