ACA Galleries: Pioneering Progressive Art Since 1932 and Beyond

Founded in 1932 by Herman Baron and artists Stuart Davis and Yasuo Kuniyoshi, the ACA Gallery stands as one of New York's oldest art galleries. Since its inception, the gallery has been at the forefront of promoting progressive and politically charged art, showcasing the early works of artists who have since gained worldwide recognition. Notable names among these trailblazers include Alice Neel, Aaron Douglas, William Gropper, Philip Evergood, Giorgio Cavallon, Rockwell Kent, Barnett Newman, and Irene Rice Pereira.

In the 1960s, ACA Gallery expanded its presence by opening its first foreign branch in Rome and launching the ACA Heritage Gallery in Los Angeles. These new venues allowed the gallery to showcase a diverse range of artworks, spanning from Old Masters to Modern, American and European artists.

Throughout the years, ACA Galleries has made significant contributions to the art world, hosting more than 850 exhibitions and producing over 300 books and catalogues. The gallery has also played a vital role in co-curating and organizing numerous traveling museum exhibitions, both nationally and internationally.
