Yan Xinyue

Yan Xinyue's art captures the tension of daily life amidst the backdrop of swift urban growth. She transforms objects and subjects into various painterly forms, blending reality with fantasy on a single canvas and fusing the energetic with the serene. This exposes the struggle between one's role in society and their individuality. The irony and humor within her artworks invite viewers to escape from the solemnity of reality and enter a realm of imagination and boundless possibilities.

Biography of Yan Xinyue

Yan Xinyue was born in Heilongjiang, China, in 1992. She earned a BA degree from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art in 2015 and completed her MA at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium, in 2018.

In 2022, she presented her solo project "Breath to Breath" at Frieze NY Frame Section.

Yan Xinyue's solo and two-person exhibitions include "To Look Is to Eat" with Shana Hoehn at Jack Barrett Gallery in New York (2023), "A Prayer for the Sunset" at Sans Titre in Paris (2023), and "Summer Mist" at Capsule Shanghai in Shanghai (2020).

The artist has also exhibited her works in various group shows worldwide, including "Blue Is the Only Color My Heart Can See" at Giovannis Room in Los Angeles (2023), "Mon palais, choir" at Sans Titre in Paris (2022), "Only a Joke Can Save Us" at Current Plans in Hong Kong (2021), "Cowboys & Aliens" at Kunstpodium T in Tilburg (2019), "ABC Klubhuis-Museumnacht" at the Flemish Cultural Center De Brakke Grond in Amsterdam (2018), "Fun Club" at Parc International Cévenol in Chambon-sur-Lignon (2017), and "Encounter with Art Experiment" at Boxes Art Space, OCT Harbor in Shenzhen (2015), among others.

Currently, Yan Xinyue lives and works in Los Angeles and Shanghai.
