Fiona Tan

Fiona Tan is an Indonesian-born Dutch artist known for her multimedia installations that explore themes of identity, memory, and cultural hybridity.

Born in 1966 in Pekanbaru, Indonesia, Tan was raised in Australia and later moved to the Netherlands to study at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. She began exhibiting her work in the mid-1990s and has since become recognized as one of the leading contemporary artists of her generation. Tan's work is characterized by its use of multiple media, including film, photography, and sound, to create immersive installations that engage viewers on a visceral level. She often draws inspiration from her own personal experiences as a woman of mixed cultural heritage, exploring themes of diaspora, memory, and belonging in her work.
